More often in the first year and gradually less after that: several visits in the newborn period, then at 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12 months, and yearly afterwards. The intervals can shift with how the child is doing.

A mild fever and tenderness at the injection site in the first 24-48 hours are expected. How the fever usually behaves, what to watch in the child and when to call are given to you in writing on the day.

Slots are kept free during the day for febrile visits, though we do ask you to call first. Well-child visits are booked in advance so that well and unwell children are not in the waiting room at the same hours.

A percentile on its own is not a diagnosis. The assessment looks at the course of the curve over time, family height and the timing of puberty together. Further investigation is arranged if needed.

Part of the consultation is held with the young person alone. The limits of privacy and the situations in which the family would be informed are set out at the start with both the young person and the parent.

Yes, back-to-back appointments can be made for siblings. Telling us how many children are coming lets us plan the time properly.
